Zohran Mamdani: has the capital of Zionism fallen?

Zohran Mamdani... An Indian-origin Ugandan immigrant. A 34-year-old Shiite Muslim. He won the election with over fifty percent of the vote and became the Mayor of New York.Trump’s threats to “cut off New York’s funding,” the tens of millions of dollars spent by the Jewish lobby to block his election, and the exclusionary establishment system all failed.

His simple, down-to-earth campaign — which might seem “too plain” or even “melodramatic” to some — struck a chord with its sincerity and honesty. Immigrants, Muslims, the poor, and Black Americans — the very people most despised by the establishment — chose him.

HAS THE CAPITAL OF ZIONISM FALLEN?

AMERICA FACES ITS OWN FEAR.

In the world’s financial capital — the U.S. capital of Zionism — money, elitism, and powerful lobbies lost. It brought American arrogance to its knees and showed the world a decisive victory.

He began his speeches by saying: “I am a Muslim. I am a socialist. And I refuse to apologize for that.” Then he added: “Trump, I know you can hear me. Turn up the volume,” throwing down the gauntlet.

After decades of America equating Islam with terrorism — spilling blood, destroying nations, and killing millions — he forced the U.S. to confront its own Islamophobic hysteria and fears.

HOW WILL NETANYAHU GET TO THE LONDON HOTEL?

He took a clear stand against the joint Israeli-American genocide in Gaza, against Israel’s far-right, and against U.S. neocons. His strong anti-genocide stance and rhetoric drew crowds and inspired many. The genocide had shaken the streets so deeply that this stance became a mass political identity — one capable of winning elections in America.

He declared, “If Netanyahu sets foot in New York, he’ll be arrested.” He made this statement right in front of The London Hotel — the same hotel where Netanyahu always stayed whenever he visited New York for U.N. meetings.

So will Netanyahu be able to come to New York for next year’s U.N. General Assembly? Will he dare stay at The London Hotel again? What kind of confrontation will this cause between the federal government and New York City?

WILL JEWS LEAVE NEW YORK?

What will New York — the capital of Zionism and home to so many Israelis — mean to them now? Will it remain a livable city? Will the masses who voted for Zohran show tolerance toward them? Will the impact of the genocide spill over from the ballot box to the streets?

By declaring “I’m a Muslim,” he challenged Islamophobia — and by saying “New York is a city of immigrants,” he defied Trump and the federal government’s anti-immigrant policies. He connected with every community, stayed close to everyone — except Zionism, from which he kept his distance.

A DEMOCRATIC COMEBACK —

OR A DIFFERENT KIND OF “SIGN”?

In Türkiye, this will likely be seen as the “return of the Democrats,” a revenge against Trump. But in truth, what’s happening deserves analysis beyond the Democrat–Republican rivalry.

No one in U.S. history has ever challenged Zionism so directly. No one has ever won “the Jewish city” of New York through such defiance. No one has ever said, “If the Israeli Prime Minister comes here, he’ll be arrested.”

And all this happened at a time when people criticizing Israel’s genocide were being raided and detained. For both Republicans and Democrats, Israel has always been untouchable — the true owner of America. That belief has never been broken.

A NEW POLITICAL LANGUAGE

POSSIBLE IN THE U.S. AND EUROPE?

Let’s be clear: voters in both the U.S. and Europe are searching for a new political language — something beyond the stale structures of existing politics.

The massive marches across European cities during the genocide, the extraordinary public sensitivity — these were signs of that search.

They’ve turned this new opposition discourse into an act of rebellion against the rigid systems of the U.S. and Europe. To question the system itself, they targeted their own governments that enabled Israel’s genocide.

Of course, this street-level awakening was bound to have political consequences. But because institutions and mechanisms remain so dominant, that public yearning was channeled through “outrage-triggering” events and shocking moments instead of real reform.

WHY IS THIS REACTION HAPPENING IN THE WEST, NOT MUSLIM COUNTRIES?

Why are these mass protests happening in Western cities and not in Muslim countries? Is it just a matter of conscience?

During the Iraq invasion, a million people were killed — we didn’t see anything like this. Torture centers were built, horrific crimes committed — yet no such public reckoning.

Because back then, this kind of existential search didn’t exist in the West. Now it does.

So maybe the phrase “Gaza changed the world” will find its earliest proof in the U.S. and Europe.

Indeed, in Ireland’s recent presidential election, Catherine Connolly — who joined anti-genocide demonstrations — won with over 60 percent of the vote. Ireland was already taking a noble stance against the genocide, but the symbolic weight of this support is undeniable.

REMEMBERING THE OBAMA DISAPPOINTMENT.

Could Zohran’s success reflect a broader awakening — one similar to Europe’s? If we read it merely as a Democratic victory, then disappointment is inevitable, just as it was with Obama.

After George Bush and the “Christian Zionists” drenched our region in blood, Barack Obama — with “Hussein” as his middle name — was marketed as a beacon of hope.

I remember that hype well — the excitement, the showmanship, the PR. I even wrote back then: “You might be disappointed.” And that’s exactly what happened.

Under Obama, there may not have been massive invasions, but dozens of Muslim countries were bombed relentlessly. Groups like Daesh were cultivated. Our region was destroyed again.

AMERICA’S GUAIDÓ — OR ITS NEXT REAL LEADER?

IF HE’S JUST A “MODEL,” ZOHRAN WON’T LAST.

Zohran isn’t the U.S. president — he’s just a mayor. His election after a genocide is certainly powerful. His every move seems symbolic, and his defiance of Zionism and opposition to genocide have captured hearts.

But in an era when states are consolidating power at the center, it’s worth asking what kind of debates this election will spark inside the U.S. — and whether it can endure.

If he succeeds, he could very well set sail toward the presidency. But the road ahead is perilous. He could become a new kind of role model for America — or end up like Zelensky, Guaidó, or even İmamoğlu. If he’s built as a “model,” his lifespan will be short.

WE CARE LESS ABOUT WHO GETS ELECTED —

AND MORE ABOUT WHERE THEY STAND.

No state wants destabilizing figures to survive long. No state entertains such fantasies. In a world where storm clouds are gathering, no government has that luxury. If the Democrats have “modeled” Zohran this way, it will end in failure.

But if realities beyond Democratic theatrics and liberal illusions emerge — if the public’s new search becomes a true movement — then Zohran’s election and what follows could ignite serious debate inside America.

My own view: it’s not about who gets elected, but where they stand. As the West’s 500-year colonial history nears its end, the more its internal crises grow and its focus turns inward, the more relief that brings to our own region and countries.

A STAND AGAINST ZIONISM DESERVES APPLAUSE.

THIS IS A FIRST IN AMERICAN HISTORY!

We seek to strengthen an anti-occupation, anti-exploitation, human-centered perspective. Whatever America goes through, our gaze remains on our own region.

We reject whatever harms us and applaud whatever empowers us. Whatever benefits the “Türkiye Axis,” we support; whatever harms it, we oppose.

But we openly welcome America’s growing self-questioning — the inward turn of the chaos it has long spread across the world. That’s how we look at both Trump and Zohran.

A RIPENING CLIMATE

FOR ISRAELI CONSPIRACIES IN THE U.S.

If Zohran’s defiance of Zionism continues, it will be applauded — and it marks the first time in American history that such a stance has emerged with real force.

If he carries that defiance into political leadership, it would mark a revolutionary line. Otherwise, he’ll simply be swallowed by Democratic corruption.

Of course, all this depends on “nothing happening to him.” Because within the U.S., conditions have never been so ripe for Israeli conspiracies.
