Why journalism still captivates

Through my work in media management, I’m often invited to universities and career events organised by students.
And almost every time, I meet students and new graduates who tell me they want to work in journalism — or in digital storytelling, production, or content creation.
And I completely understand why.
Because journalism, despite all its challenges, remains one of the most rewarding careers you can choose.
It’s not just a job — it’s a journey that keeps you learning, exploring, and growing every single day.
You meet new people constantly — from officials and entrepreneurs to artists and ordinary citizens with extraordinary stories.
You find yourself in places you never expected to be.
You witness moments that shape societies and change perceptions.
And you realise that every story, big or small, has the power to inform, inspire, and sometimes even transform lives.
Of course, the path isn’t easy.
Traditional media jobs are fewer, and competition is real.
But the truth is, opportunities haven’t disappeared — they’ve simply shifted.
Every day, I hear about new digital platforms being built — websites, apps, and creative initiatives that give space to new voices.
More and more organisations, institutions, and companies are realising that they need their own media presence to tell their stories and show their work to the world.
And that means there’s room for talented young people who are ready to adapt, produce, and lead in this new digital era.
That’s why journalism still matters.
Because no matter how technology changes, people will always look for those who can tell the story — clearly, truthfully, and with heart.
So if you have a dream to be a journalist, don’t lose it.
Keep those hopes alive.
Learn every tool you can.
Build your voice.
Stay curious about the world and the people in it.
The form of journalism may change, but the purpose remains the same — to connect people through stories that matter.
And that’s why, even today, journalism still captivates.
