South Sudan vows to uphold 2018 peace agreement at UN meeting

Ambassador Cecilia Adut Manyok described the agreement as the essential framework for achieving lasting stability in the conflict-affected nation, emphasizing her government's unwavering commitment despite ongoing challenges.
Commitment to Peace Process
Manyok stated that the peace agreement signed by President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar and other political factions remains the sole viable path toward transition and stability. She confirmed the government's continued adherence to the permanent ceasefire and condemned violence targeting humanitarian workers, promising accountability under South Sudanese law for such attacks.
Call for Restraint and Cooperation
The ambassador urged all parties to the agreement to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory actions that could undermine peace efforts.
