An elderly man in Homs has revealed a library belonging to his son that he kept hidden behind a wall in their home for years, fearing repercussions from Syria's former government under Bashar al-Assad. The discovery is one of several stories emerging across Syria of banned or hidden books resurfacing since the regime's fall in December 2024, after decades in which possessing certain texts carried serious risk. Under the dictator Assad's rule, Syrian publishers and citizens say books deemed critical of the government, or that promoted differing ideologies, were routinely confiscated, banned, or destroyed, pushing many families to conceal personal collections out of fear of imprisonment or worse.

Former Mossad chief David Barnea has said Israel intentionally released images of a covert operation in Iran during the June 2025 conflict to provoke mass arrests and make it harder for Iranian forces to find real Israeli agents, according to a recent report by The Jerusalem Post. Barnea said the official video with the Mossad logo, released on the morning of Operation Rising Lion, was meant to protect agents on the ground by overwhelming Iranian counterintelligence. He said Iranian authorities arrested 21,000 people during the operation. “We wanted to make sure they arrested so many people in Iran that they wouldn’t be able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff and would eventually release everyone,” he said. Barnea also said some of those hanged in Iran on accusations of working for Israel had no connection to Mossad.

🇵🇸 An Israeli soldier has posted a photograph of a blindfolded Palestinian journalist standing beside him during her arrest. Freelance journalist Marah Awad was taken from her family home in Beit Ummar, north of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, early on 26 October. Her brother said soldiers searched the house, accused her of incitement against Israel, seized her phone and computer, then tied her hands, blindfolded her and took her to an unknown location. Her family said they still do not know where she is being held.

US commentator Tucker Carlson has criticized ICC-wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu after the Israeli leader accused Hamas of interfering in Israel’s election. Carlson said Hamas had been devastated in Gaza yet Netanyahu still claimed it somehow had the power to rig a vote, calling that a desperate line from someone he described as a buffoon. “Everyone’s like, oh Bibi is so smart, he’s an idiot. Bibi’s always been stupid, very clever and cunning and feral, but dumb,” he said.

Israeli actress Hili Goldenberg said on a live television program that she no longer feels proud to be Israeli, believing at the time that the conversation was not being broadcast. Goldenberg, born in 1954, said it took around ten years after 1967 for her generation to understand what she described as “the sin of the occupation,” and listed growing religiosity, settlers, “Jewish terror” and arrogance among its results. “Everything happening now is a result of the occupation,” she said. As the host tried to turn the conversation to cinema and her new roles, she asked whether they had been on air and, when told they had, objected and said she was leaving, explaining she had thought the exchange was off-screen.

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has responded to President Donald Trump’s comment that he should go through metal detectors if elected, proposing that Trump take a lie detector test in return. Addressing supporters at a campaign event, El-Sayed said his first question for Trump would be about Epstein, and his second would be whether he won the 2020 election. “I’ll go through a metal detector every day, you sit through a lie detector one time. That’s the deal,” he said.

A social media influencer has responded to those who call Hamas terrorists by reading out a list of goods that the Israeli regime has kept out of Gaza over the past 19 years. Her list ranged from anesthesia, oxygen tanks, cancer medication, wheelchairs and insulin pens to baby formula, nappies, meat, eggs, coffee, crayons, books, soap, blankets and wedding dresses. She said more than 430 food items alone had been banned for 2 million people. She went on to ask what to call a government that keeps food from children and medicine from hospitals, describing the blockade as collective punishment and a siege. “Labels don’t matter. Lists do,” she said.

🇹🇷 Retired Turkish General Staff colonel Dr Çağlar Özer warns the genocidal Israeli regime against any physical confrontation with Türkiye, including a missile strike on the NATO member, in a live broadcast. “If Israel loses its mind and does something crazy that brings it into physical contact with Türkiye, if it says, ‘let me fire a missile at a NATO member, let me open a front against Türkiye,’ then 24 hours later Israel’s geography changes. And Turkish commanders go and drink their morning coffee in Tel Aviv. I am saying this openly and clearly,” he said.
