Türkiye offers troops for Gaza, urges international mechanism to end occupation

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced Türkiye's readiness to deploy troops and assume security responsibilities in Gaza as part of international efforts. Fidan emphasized the need for a mechanism to end Israel's occupation while detailing ongoing diplomatic discussions about Gaza's future governance and stabilization.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has declared Ankara's willingness to participate in international security arrangements for Gaza, including potential troop deployment, while calling for concrete mechanisms to end Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.
Clear Commitment to Gaza Security
During a live television interview on Saturday, Fidan stated that Türkiye stands ready to "shoulder the burden in Gaza" and would "fulfill its responsibilities with a great sense of duty, including sending troops." He described this as Türkiye's clearest message to the international community regarding its commitment to regional stability. The foreign minister emphasized that Türkiye's reliable partnership and active diplomacy have positioned it as a sought-after actor in addressing complex international issues.
Diplomatic Framework and International Coordination
Fidan detailed ongoing diplomatic efforts, noting that discussions continue regarding the establishment of both a peace commission and an International Stabilization Force for Gaza. He revealed that a UN Security Council draft resolution remains under negotiation, focusing on creating a legal framework to define the mandate and operations of any stabilization force. The foreign minister highlighted the recently established Civil-Military Coordination Center in Israel as an initial operational platform for monitoring post-ceasefire developments, noting Washington's continued consultation with Ankara on these matters.
Addressing Root Causes of war
The Turkish diplomat presented a comprehensive analysis of the wart's underlying dynamics, arguing that "as long as the occupation continues, armed resistance will persist." He stressed that the international community should focus first on establishing mechanisms to end the occupation rather than beginning with the disarmament of Hamas. Fidan criticized efforts to equate Hamas with terrorist organizations like ISIS, emphasizing the need to dismantle what he characterized as false perceptions through diplomatic channels and replace them with accurate contextual understanding.
Pathway to Political Solution
Fidan reiterated Türkiye's position that Palestinians require a clear roadmap ending Israeli occupation and enabling a two-state solution. He noted that Türkiye, alongside Egypt and Qatar, played an active role in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire and continues intensive humanitarian coordination efforts. The foreign minister also revealed that discussions are underway to form a non-political administrative committee for Gaza's daily governance, with Hamas having expressed readiness to transfer authority to a Palestinian-led body.
