On the 37th anniversary of the State of Palestine's founding, Türkiye has powerfully reiterated its steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause and the vision of a sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reinforcing its diplomatic stance.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry marked the 37th founding anniversary of the State of Palestine with a strong declaration of continued support. In a message posted on the social media platform NSosyal, the ministry pledged, “As Türkiye, we will continue to defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and support their just cause.” This public affirmation underscores Türkiye's long-standing position as a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights on the global stage.

The Two-State Vision

The ministry's statement explicitly outlined the nation's ultimate objective for a lasting resolution. The official goal remains the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This endorsement of the two-state solution is presented as the fundamental path to achieving durable peace and stability in the region, a principle consistently championed by Turkish diplomacy.

Historical Context of Palestine's Declaration

The State of Palestine was formally proclaimed by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on November 15, 1988, in Algiers, Algeria. This historic declaration was a pivotal move to assert Palestinian sovereignty and gain international legitimacy after decades of conflict and Israeli occupation. Since that moment, the quest for full recognition has continued, with a significant number of countries worldwide having now recognized the State of Palestine as it continues to pursue full United Nations membership.
