Journalist Bisan Owda breaks down describing storm deaths in Gaza
Heavy winter rains swept across the Gaza Strip, triggering deadly collapses of homes and tents sheltering displaced families, Gaza health officials said. At least six people were killed in one day as floodwaters and strong winds destroyed makeshift shelters and damaged structures weakened by months of war.
Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda described the scene as ceilings collapsed on families while they slept, killing a 33-year-old mother and later two more civilians. She condemned global indifference to the crisis, stating that “nothing is over” for Gaza’s residents enduring winter without adequate protection.
The disaster unfolded amid repeated ceasefire violations, with Israeli forces killing at least 386 Palestinians since the truce took effect in October. More than 70,300 people have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, with attacks continuing despite the ceasefire agreement.
