Türkiye and Iraq have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening commercial and economic relations and achieving a medium-term trade volume target of $30 billion. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met his Iraqi counterpart Mustafa Nizar Jumaa in Ankara during Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's visit to Türkiye.
Development Road and Cooperation
Bolat said the two ministers discussed concrete steps to reach the trade target, expand cooperation and encourage mutual investments. Talks focused on the Development Road Project, customs harmonisation and transit trade. Bolat said the rapid integration of the Ibrahim Khalil Border Gate into Iraq's customs system would make an important contribution to achieving the target.
Future Meetings
A new roadmap will be established during the third meeting of the Türkiye-Iraq Joint Economic and Trade Committee, scheduled in Türkiye in the final quarter of 2026. Transport ministers also met to discuss cooperation in transportation, which officials said would contribute to regional stability.
