115,000 students affected by terror in southern Turkey

More than 100,000 students are unable to go to school due to PKK attacks targeting schools and excavated ditches in Diyarbakır, Şırnak and Mardin province

Residents of the southern provinces of Diyarbakır, Şırnak and Mardin have been suffering from attacks of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) where security forces have been fighting terror by removing barricades set up by the PKK, destroying booby traps and filling excavated ditches.

More than 115,000 students were could not attend school due to PKK attacks in three southern provinces.

Twenty-five thousand students in Nusaybin, in Dargeçit 8,590, in Silopi 39,000 in Cizre 1,127 and in Sur 7,000 students could not attend their classes.

The Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanism building in Şırnak was set on fire by terrorists three times in last two days alone.

'Unacceptable '

"In the 255 schools of the five towns, more than 115,000 students were not able to go to school, which is something that we cannot accept," said Yunus Memiş, Head of the Diyarbakır Eğitim-Bir-Sen.

"Even Hitler did not oppress civilians. No one can gain favor from preventing education. Ignorance is the worst enemy of humanity. And attacks which target schools are violations of human rights."
