Curfew for Nusaybin to curb PKK terror

The governorate of Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin announced on Sunday that a curfew will be imposed in four neighbourhoods of Nusaybin district amid operations to seize outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants.

The curfew includes the Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir neighbourhoods of Nusaybin.

The statement of the Mardin governorate said, "in order to protect our people's lives and property and re-establish the disrupted peace and security in our region, a curfew starting from 7:00 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2015, will be put into effect in the determined regions [Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir] until further notice.”

After a two-year cease-fire with the Turkish state, the PKK started its armed campaign late in July 2015. Since then, more than 150 members of security forces have been martryed in clashes, while over 2,000 PKK terrorists have been killed in Northern Iraq and Turkey.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU. It has been fighting Turkish government forces, mainly in the southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. The bloody campaign has left over 40,000 people dead, including Turkish police officers and soldiers.
