PKK suspect detonates car bomb at Tunceli Gendarmerie, 3 injured

A minibus packed with explosives was driven to a Gendarmerie guardhouse in Tunceli and then detonated by remote control by an alleged PKK member, injuring three, security sources say

A car bomb driven by a suspected suicide attacker exploded near a guardhouse of a division of the Gendarmerie command in the eastern province of Tunceli injuring one military personnel and two civilians midnight on Thursday.

According to security sources, a minibus packed with explosives was driven to the guardhouse of the Public Order Division Command of the Pülümür district, by a member of the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party, or PKK. The suspected terrorist left the vehicle and activated the explosive via remote control.

The PKK suspect then opened fire to the security officers with a long-barreled weapon and fled after the Gendarmerie personnel shot with counter fire.

The security units said after the preliminary investigation in the scene, that the vehicle was laden with between 1 to 1.5 tons of explosive materials.

Security officials secured the area and launched a wide search operation to detain the attacker who fled into a wooden area.

Another group of PKK terrorists attacked the Yeniyaz Gendarmerie Station in the Genç district of Bingol province with rocket launchers and long barreled weapons, injuring specialist sergeant Rıdvan Çakır.

The pro-Kurdish PKK, which was listed as a terror organization by the U.S. and EU, broke a three-year long ceasefire a month ago and intensified its terror attacks targeting both security officials and civilians.

More than 30 security forces' members and several civilians were killed in the latest terror attacks as Turkey's authority also launched wide operations against the terror group, including police raids, military operations and airstrikes on PKK targets in Turkey and northern Iraq.
