Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan KurtulmusParliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus said the 'Terror-Free Türkiye' process passed with sweeping political consensus, garnering 467 parliamentary votes while balancing the sensitivities of martyrs' families and veterans, and positioning the legislative framework as a potential global model for conflict resolution.
Speaking at Anadolu Agency's Editors' Desk program in Ankara, Kurtulmus emphasized that the legislative process maintained a delicate equilibrium acceptable to martyrs' families, veterans, and the collective conscience. He noted that debates over the state's basic characteristics never emerged during deliberations, underscoring the widespread determination to preserve national unity.
The parliament speaker stressed that the framework law secured 467 votes in the Grand National Assembly, reflecting what he described as the people's embrace of peace and well-being. He characterized the measure as essential for fortifying Türkiye's internal unity amid challenging regional geopolitics.
Rejection of 'imperialist' legacy
Kurtulmus framed the overwhelming parliamentary support as a definitive break from historical patterns benefiting external powers. He described the winners of previous eras as "imperialists with dirty hands and blood in their bags," arguing that the 467-vote majority signals a national will to overcome such legacies. "We will break this game. This is what the 467 votes mean to me. Türkiye has demonstrated this will," he said.
Global model envisioned
The speaker projected that the legislative framework could eventually serve as an international benchmark for conflict resolution. "When the Türkiye model we have put forward is completed, it will set an example for the entire world and will be taught in universities," he stated, adding that the careful preparation ensures the law would never harm national interests.
New political era
He urged political actors to transcend ideological "echo chambers" and develop language addressing all societal segments. "What matters is creating the political maturity and integration in which no Kurdish young person in this country will ever again say, 'I need to go to the mountains,'" he said.
Kurtulmus also indicated that the current political climate has matured sufficiently to support drafting a new civilian constitution, suggesting the Terror-Free Türkiye initiative reflects durable popular will for stability and integration.
