Turkey's Soma mining disaster trial adjourned

The trial of Turkey's Soma mine disaster, which claimed 301 lives last year, has been adjourned until Wednesday

The trial of 45 defendants linked to Turkey's 2014 Soma mining disaster, which saw over 300 deaths, is adjourned. The trial was held in the Manisa's Akhisar District's Bulent Cigeroglu Cultural Center.

Eight of 45 defendants are already in custody.

The trial has been scheduled to continue on April 25, when the complainants' lawyers sought to try the eight defendants.

For their own safety, the eight defendants presently detained in Izmir will testify with a closed circuit video, the judge decided. The complainants' lawyers voiced that the trial's closed circuit video procedure was against the European Convention on Human Rights(ECHR).

The Soma disaster took place in Turkey's Aegean region in May 2014 and it left 301 miners dead and injured 486 others.

The tragedy remains to be the worst mining incident in Turkey's history.
