Türkiye showcases counter-drone tech at NATO summit

Bogazici Defense Technologies positioned its Ilter electronic warfare suite at strategic points throughout the capital during the recent alliance meeting, establishing a defensive umbrella over the summit venue through integrated radar and jamming assets. The Ankara-based firm utilized artificial intelligence-enabled tracking and electronic neutralization capabilities to safeguard participating dignitaries against unmanned aerial intrusions.

The Ilter J400 delivered long-range electronic jamming while the Hybrid Active Scanned Phased Array Radar, or HSPAR, provided electro-optical surveillance supported by machine-learning algorithms. The Ilter MRKAS, recently transferred to the Turkish Gendarmerie General Command, served as a primary interdiction asset during the high-profile gathering, according to defense industry sources.

Alliance Counter-Drone Strategy

NATO leadership unveiled the Drone Edge initiative at the Ankara meeting, establishing a collective framework for detecting, identifying and eliminating unmanned threats across member territories. Allied governments are projected to allocate more than $40 billion over the next five years toward comprehensive counter-unmanned aerial system solutions encompassing detection radars, electro-optical sensors, GPS spoofing and kinetic destruction platforms.

Modern drone defense architectures are typically classified into soft-kill and hard-kill categories based on their engagement methods against hostile aircraft. The Turkish Defense Industries Agency has coordinated domestic development across both classifications, supplying equipment to national security services and achieving significant export contracts in global markets.

System Performance

The Ilter family integrated radar, electro-optical sensors and coordinate spoofing functions under a unified command-and-control structure throughout the summit duration. Bogazici Defense Technologies confirmed that the platforms maintained high operational readiness and fulfilled their protective mandates without technical failure during the event.

Defense officials noted that the successful deployment highlights Ankara's growing capacity in asymmetric warfare technologies. The Ilter suite demonstrated particular effectiveness in layered air defense scenarios against evolving drone threats, company representatives said.
