Türkiye hails new Board of Peace, says Gaza aid and Syria unity are priorities

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared that the newly launched Board of Peace will prove its value through concrete actions, starting with humanitarian aid for Gaza. Speaking in Davos after the body’s charter signing, he emphasized Ankara’s constructive regional role and stressed the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity as it emerges from conflict.
Türkiye has endorsed the newly established Board of Peace as a critical platform for resolving international crises, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stating its true worth will be measured by tangible results on the ground. The comments came on Thursday following the formal launch of the body, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, which aims to work alongside the UN to address global conflicts extending beyond the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
Humanitarian Focus in Gaza
Speaking to reporters in Davos, Switzerland, after the signing ceremony, Fidan highlighted that the board’s first meeting had already taken place, with discussions centered on facilitating urgent humanitarian aid into Gaza. "This is a platform where countries are seriously working to harmonize differing views through diplomacy," Fidan said. He noted that initial steps for the newly formed Palestinian National Committee, tasked with administering Gaza, were also outlined. "As concrete steps are implemented, the Board of Peace will gain significant value, both for humanitarian issues and beyond," he added.
A Constructive Role in Syria
Turning to regional affairs, the minister underscored Türkiye’s commitment to a constructive policy in Syria, emphasizing the vital importance of the country’s unity and territorial integrity after 14 years of civil war. Fidan described Syria’s potential transformation from a source of terrorism and refugees into a unified, stable state as a "miraculous development" for the region. He insisted that the rights of all ethnic and religious groups, including Kurds, Alawites, Yazidis, and Turkmens, must be protected, while calling for all Syrians to unite under a common national identity.

Navigating a Shifting Global Order
Fidan also outlined Türkiye’s balanced and principled foreign policy approach, which places national interests at the core while seeking win-win outcomes with global powers. He pointed to the rapidly changing international landscape, referencing the war in Ukraine and uncertain negotiations, noting that outcomes will reshape the region and the world. "If we assess these developments correctly, we can proceed without harm," Fidan warned, highlighting Ankara’s role in maintaining stability through proactive diplomacy.
