Türkiye’s Araban garlic ranks among world’s top 5 varieties

Türkiye’s Araban garlic, a EU-registered product from Gaziantep, has been ranked fifth among the world’s best garlic varieties by TasteAtlas. The list includes 17 types of garlic from countries including France, Italy, Spain, and China, with China’s Jinxiang garlic taking first place.
Türkiye’s Araban garlic, a protected EU-registered product from the southeastern province of Gaziantep, has secured a place among the top five garlic varieties in the world, according to TasteAtlas — a global platform that ranks local foods, beverages, and restaurants. Hasan Altun, head of the Araban Chamber of Agriculture and the Araban Garlic Producers Union, announced the achievement on Monday.
Global recognition for local produce
Altun stated that the TasteAtlas list featured 17 types of garlic from various countries, including France, Italy, Spain, and China. Araban garlic was placed fifth, highlighting its quality and contribution to Türkiye’s agricultural reputation. “Araban garlic makes significant contributions to the national and regional economy,” Altun said. China’s Jinxiang garlic ranked first, followed by Spain’s Ajo Morado de Las Pedroneras in second place and Türkiye’s own Taşköprü garlic in third.
Two Turkish varieties in top five
With both Araban and Taşköprü garlic ranking among the top five, Türkiye demonstrated its strength in garlic production on the international stage. The recognition underscores the growing global appreciation for Turkish regional produce and its potential for export expansion. Altun expressed pride in the achievement and encouraged further support for local farmers.
