US Central Command has announced a new wave of strikes against Iran, aimed at degrading military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks follow continued exchanges between Washington and Tehran despite a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire framework.
The United States has launched another round of strikes against Iran, US Central Command announced on Monday. In a post on social media platform X, CENTCOM said the strikes began at 4 pm ET (2000GMT) "at the Commander in Chief's direction," referring to President Donald Trump.
Objective of the Strikes
"The strikes are designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said. The latest attacks come amid an ongoing military campaign largely focused on southern Iran, with the US seeking to reduce Iran's ability to threaten maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.
Continued Exchanges
Tehran has retaliated with strikes targeting facilities and bases in several regional countries hosting US military assets. The exchanges continue despite a Pakistani-brokered framework agreement signed in June intended to end the conflict and establish a lasting peace deal.
