Egypt's envoy says Cairo and Ankara are strategic partners working for regional peace

Egypt and Türkiye are strategic partners and key regional actors working together to promote stability and peace, Egypt's Ambassador to Türkiye Wael Badawi has said. In an interview with Anadolu, Badawi said cooperation extends beyond political issues such as Gaza and Iran to include the environment, culture and the economy.

Strategic Partnership and Cooperation

Badawi said the breadth of cooperation is reflected in frequent high-level visits, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Egypt in February for the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting. He noted that Egypt's defence minister recently visited Ankara to strengthen defence industry cooperation. "You have a very developed defence industry. In Egypt too, we have a quite advanced defence industry, and therefore, we are trying to see how both countries can cooperate in this area," he said.

Regional Issues and Diplomacy

On Gaza, Badawi said both countries are committed to a two-state solution and oppose any attempts to displace Palestinians. On Lebanon, he called for a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and on Syria, he condemned Israeli incursions and stressed respect for Syria's territorial integrity. On US-Iran tensions, he said there can be no military solution and that diplomacy is essential for regional stability.
