Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Oman on Saturday with a diplomatic delegation for talks focusing on bilateral relations and the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran and Washington exchanged fresh military strikes across Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan following the collapse of a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire effort.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will lead a diplomatic delegation to Oman on Saturday for discussions on bilateral ties and regional security, with particular attention to developments in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Iranian media reported on Friday.

Diplomatic agenda

Araghchi is scheduled to hold talks with senior Omani officials regarding the latest developments in the region, particularly the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran's official IRNA news agency. No further details about the specific agenda or planned meetings were immediately disclosed.

Regional hostilities

The visit comes amid renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States. In mid-June, the two sides had reached a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding aimed at ending their military conflict, though the agreement has since frayed amid fresh exchanges of fire.

Tehran launched a series of strikes on Thursday targeting US military infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan, following what Iranian officials described as a second consecutive night of American attacks. The escalation follows Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the week.
