Iran threatens strikes on regional energy infrastructure if US targets its assets

Iran has threatened to strike regional energy infrastructure, including facilities in which Washington has interests, if the US targets Iranian bridges or power plants, a military source warned on Wednesday. The warning followed President Donald Trump's threat to bomb an Iranian bridge or power plant each time Tehran attacks a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Position on the Strait

Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, the source said Iran has a "steel determination" to exercise its sovereignty over the strategic waterway and "would never allow the strait to become a source of threats" against the country. The source added that shipping would remain safe provided vessels coordinate with Iran and comply with Tehran's arrangements.

Escalating Exchange

"If the US targeted any Iranian bridge or power plant, Tehran would respond by striking regional infrastructure, including energy facilities in which Washington has interests," the source warned. The exchanges continue despite a Pakistan-brokered framework agreement signed in June intended to end the war and establish lasting peace.
