Tehran announced that the oil tanker Sili City successfully navigated into Iranian territorial waters overnight, overcoming what the Army described as persistent threats from American naval forces. The vessel has now docked at a southern port, marking a significant development amid rising maritime tensions between Iran and the United States throughout the strategic Arabian Sea region.

The Iranian Army confirmed that the Sili City tanker completed its voyage into national waters during the overnight hours, securing its position at a terminal along the country's southern coastline. Military officials emphasized that naval units provided comprehensive operational support throughout the final leg of the journey across the Arabian Sea. According to state media reports citing military authorities, the vessel maintained its course despite facing what were characterized as repeated coercive communications from US Navy task forces operating in the vicinity.

American maritime interdiction campaign

Washington's Central Command recently disclosed intensified efforts to enforce restrictions on Iranian maritime commerce. American naval personnel intercepted and confiscated the Iranian-flagged vessel TOUSKA within the Gulf of Oman during the weekend, alleging noncompliance with navigation directives. Since initiating a comprehensive port blockade on April 13, US forces have reportedly turned away nearly thirty commercial ships, compelling them to abandon their routes or return to Iranian harbors. Tehran has officially denounced the TOUSKA seizure as a violation of international maritime law.

Regional security deterioration

Current friction represents an extension of broader military confrontations initiated earlier this year. Hostilities surged following coordinated offensive operations conducted by Washington and Tel Aviv against Iranian facilities on February 28, prompting retaliatory measures targeting Israeli positions and American military installations across the region. The maritime dimension adds another layer of complexity to an already volatile security environment affecting Persian Gulf shipping lanes and international energy markets.

Diplomatic efforts and blockade continuity

Islamabad facilitated direct negotiations between American and Iranian representatives on April 11-12, successfully establishing a temporary two-week cessation of hostilities commencing April 8. This agreement is scheduled to conclude Wednesday evening according to Washington time. While discussions regarding an extended truce continue, the US President indicated minimal probability of prolonging the ceasefire arrangement. Furthermore, commercial traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz remains suspended indefinitely pending comprehensive agreement between the parties.
