Kuwait's air defence systems have been intercepting Iranian missiles and drones targeting its territory, the country's military General Staff said on Thursday. The military said the country was facing "hostile" attacks as part of Iranian assaults, urging citizens and residents to comply with security instructions.
US Base Targeted
Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said missile and drone attacks targeted the US-operated Ali Al Salem Air Base, one of the largest American military facilities in Kuwait. The outlet also reported that warning sirens sounded at the base. Kuwaiti authorities said the Abdali border crossing in the north had been targeted twice by drones, causing material damage but no casualties.
Escalating Conflict
The attacks come amid escalating tensions between Iran and the US, with Tehran carrying out strikes against American military assets in the region. The exchanges continue despite a Pakistani-brokered memorandum of understanding signed last month intended to end the conflict and establish lasting peace.
