Monsoon, cyclones affect over 380,000 across Philippines

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Sunday that the combined effects of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon have affected over 382,000 people across eight regions in the Philippines, according to the Philippine News Agency.

Deaths and Damage

The death toll from the weather disturbances stood at six on Sunday, with another seven people reported injured, the council said. Two fatalities resulted from a landslide triggered by heavy rain, two from a rockslide, and the remaining two from drowning and electrocution, according to official reports. The storms also left 148 houses damaged — 10 completely destroyed and 138 partially.

Evacuation Efforts

Authorities have activated 86 evacuation centers across the affected regions, currently sheltering 2,200 families or approximately 7,300 individuals. Another 1,132 families, comprising roughly 3,700 people, are staying outside these centers while receiving assistance, the agency reported.

Regional Impact

The council confirmed that 110,000 families have reported disruptions across the eight regions, with damage assessments ongoing as weather warnings remain in effect for areas prone to landslides and flash flooding.
