Nearly 100 US service members have been injured in Iranian airstrikes targeting military bases across the Middle East this month, US officials told CBS News. The majority of those injured have since returned to active duty, with Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirming the numbers in a statement.
Nature of Injuries and Response
Parnell said almost 100 people "were deemed to have some degree of injury since July 7, 2026," with 96% having returned to duty. "They are determined to get back in the fight. The vast majority of injuries experienced were minor concussions," he said. The injuries were sustained in Iranian strikes on US facilities in the region.
Escalating Conflict
The report comes as the US continues airstrikes against Iran, largely focused on southern Iran, with Tehran responding with strikes targeting facilities and bases in several regional countries hosting US military assets. The exchange continues despite a Pakistani-brokered framework agreement signed in June intended to end the war.
