Trump cancels planned Iran strikes to allow peace talks

Planned military action canceled

US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he had canceled a planned military strike against Iran after receiving requests from Tehran and "other Middle Eastern countries" for time to finalize the framework of a peace deal. Trump stated that Israel has also agreed to join the commitment to hold off on attacks while diplomatic efforts continue, according to a post on his Truth Social platform.

Framework for potential deal

In the social media post, Trump said that the sides had agreed to the "perimeters" of a potential agreement that would include the "immediate, complete, and total" reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat. He said he agreed to cancel the attack "for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran," adding that the decision remains subject to the parties being able to "rapidly make a DEAL."

Military readiness emphasized

Despite the pause in military action, Trump warned that "The USA is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II." He confirmed that Israel had agreed to the commitment to hold off, urging all parties: "Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE."
