Trump unveils Gaza deal on Hamas disarmament, Israeli pullout

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that an agreement has been reached to begin the phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, alongside a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave. Trump said the deal, negotiated under the Board of Peace initiative, marks a significant step toward implementing a broader Gaza ceasefire framework, while acknowledging the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye.

Phased implementation plan

In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement would be introduced in carefully planned stages. He stated that as the disarmament process advances, Israeli troops will progressively leave Gaza, while an International Stabilization Force and a newly established Palestinian police force will assume responsibility for maintaining security.

Trump described the agreement as "a major milestone" within his broader 20-point Gaza plan, adding that the territory would eventually be administered by a new Palestinian government working alongside the Board of Peace to improve governance and stability.

Mediators credited

The US president praised the diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, saying their mediation, together with his administration's negotiations, helped secure what he called a "historic breakthrough." "One year ago there was a violent raging war, humanitarian crisis and hostages kept in brutal captivity. We have made historic progress and there is still much work to do," Trump said.

The Board of Peace also announced on X that Hamas had accepted a detailed roadmap for implementing the next phases of the Gaza ceasefire. According to the statement, attention will now shift to executing the agreement and supporting the transition of administrative authority in Gaza.

Transition and humanitarian efforts

The Board of Peace said it has been coordinating closely with the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), which is expected to gradually assume broader governing responsibilities with the support of the International Stabilization Force. The statement added that efforts will focus on strengthening the rule of law, improving security conditions and expanding humanitarian assistance throughout the Gaza Strip.

The latest announcement follows months of negotiations surrounding the Gaza ceasefire. Although the truce entered into force on Oct. 10, 2025, hostilities have continued in parts of the territory. The conflict, which began after the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks, has resulted in widespread destruction across Gaza and a heavy civilian toll, while diplomatic efforts have continued to seek a lasting political solution.
