Ukrainian drone strike sparks fire at Russia's Tyumen oil refinery

A Ukrainian drone crashed into Russia's Tyumen oil refinery, causing a fire, local authorities reported on Saturday. Tyumen regional Governor Aleksandr Moor said emergency services were responding at the scene and that he was personally monitoring the situation.

Zelenskyy Confirms Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack on the refinery, saying overnight strikes also targeted a plant in Kirov that supplies components for Russian weapons, a logistics facility in Yekaterinburg and a fuel depot in Rostov-on-Don. He also claimed Ukraine achieved "very strong results" with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea, including against vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran.

Impact on Russian Refining

Ukrainian drones have targeted 24 of Russia's 34 refineries in 2026, with around one-third of refining capacity estimated to be offline by mid-June. The intensified attacks have prompted Moscow to impose restrictions to stabilise the domestic fuel market. President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged the strikes have contributed to fuel shortages but insists the situation remains under control.
