US attacks disable 116 telecom towers in Iran's Hormozgan

Communications infrastructure targeted

Hormozgan's director-general of communications said on Saturday that US attacks on Friday night knocked 116 telecommunications towers offline across Iran's southern Hormozgan province, disrupting critical communication services in northern Bandar Abbas and Hajiabad. The official told Iran's Tasnim News Agency that the strikes damaged traffic and bandwidth transmission lines serving the region.

The official confirmed the damage details to Tasnim News Agency, stating that the attacks severed critical infrastructure. "During the attack, 116 telecommunications towers were knocked offline, and landline, mobile phone and internet services are currently cut off in some northern areas of the province," he said, noting that crews have already begun restoration work.

Restoration efforts

Work to rebuild the network began immediately after the strikes, with equipment and operational teams dispatched from within Hormozgan and neighboring provinces to restore connectivity. The extent of the damage remains unclear as assessment teams continue to survey the impact across the northern reaches of Bandar Abbas and Hajiabad.

Regional tensions

The telecommunications strike comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where Washington and Tehran continue to exchange attacks despite diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting. The military escalation persists even after a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed in June aimed at ending the war and reaching a lasting peace agreement.
