US launches new strikes on Iran targeting IRGC: CENTCOM

New wave of airstrikes

US Central Command announced Saturday that American warplanes launched a new wave of strikes against Iran at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on orders from President Donald Trump. The operation targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces and sought to degrade Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Today at 6 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began launching new airstrikes against Iran at the Commander in Chief's direction. The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night," CENTCOM said in a statement posted to X. The bombardment came in response to Friday's ballistic missile and drone assault on a base in Jordan that left two US troops dead and one missing.

Casualties and official response

Four service members who were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan have since been discharged, while other personnel treated for minor injuries have returned to duty, according to the command. "Out of respect for the families, CENTCOM will withhold additional information, including the identities of the fallen warriors, until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified," it added.

President Donald Trump expressed sadness over the deaths in an interview with NewsNation, saying: "We hate to see it happen. It's in service to our country." Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged the losses in a post on X, writing: "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve."
