Venezuela quake death toll rises to 4,118 with thousands injured

Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced Friday that the death toll from the country's devastating twin earthquakes has climbed to 4,118, with rescue operations continuing more than a week after the disasters struck the South American nation.

Rodriguez said 6,462 people have been rescued from the rubble so far, while 16,740 others sustained injuries in the tremors that destroyed 190 buildings and damaged 856 more. He noted that 86,794 families have received assistance since the disaster, according to his update on social media platform X.

Humanitarian response scales up across disaster zone

Authorities have distributed 9,766 metric tons of food and over 13.9 million liters of water to affected communities, with 29,966 patients receiving medical treatment so far. Some 30,076 personnel and 29,843 volunteers have been deployed alongside 3,454 international rescue workers to manage relief efforts.

Aftershocks rattle region as recovery continues

Officials have established 89 temporary camps to house displaced residents while recording 1,171 aftershocks since the initial quakes struck. The tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude hit 39 seconds apart on June 24, causing widespread destruction and prompting a large-scale national and international humanitarian response.
