The twin earthquakes registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 when they struck the South American nation on June 24. Emergency crews have continued search and recovery operations across the devastated regions for nearly one month.
Humanitarian crisis deepens
Authorities have assisted 128,324 families and established 106 temporary camps currently housing 20,857 displaced people, Rodriguez said. He noted that 17,907 individuals remain without permanent housing nearly one month after the disaster.
The tremors damaged 856 buildings across the affected areas, including 190 structures that collapsed completely, according to the National Assembly president. Thousands of families remain in temporary shelters as authorities confront the widening housing shortage.
