Cautionary access ban on Twitter
Turkey''s Information and Communication Technologies Authority BTK stated that the social media was blocked just before the midnight basing on four courts'' verdicts after some users had filed complaints that their privacy and individual rights have been violated on Twitter.
"In line with these court rulings, the Presidency of Telecommunication has required those related links to be removed. However, Twitter officials have ignored the rulings which have been issued by Turkish courts,'' BTK said in its statement.
The Communication Technologies Institution (BTK) lists four court verdicts on its website displaying the reasons for the block.
"Access to Twitter have been blocked basing on these rulings as a last resort to avert the further unfair treatment of our citizens, which cannot be compensate in the future,'' BTK added.
BTK''s statement came after Turkish Prime Minister said his government would dismantle Twitter''s website at his election rally in the city of Bursa on Wednesday.
