Latife Hanım''s letter to be sold
Latife Hanim''s 7 pages long letter that she wrote to Ataturk when they were getting a divorce, will be sold in auction on May 17th in Istanbul.
The owner of Levant Antiques, Kemal Can Suleymaniye, who got a hold of the letter through a special collector said ''Latife Hanim only requested her personal belongings.''
Suleymaniye explains, that in the letter Latife Hanim first talks about the conversation that she had with General Ismet Pasha. She wrote: ''I haven''t left home for good. I haven''t taken my stuff, nor have I mentioned them. But since I didn''t like the way I left, I told Ismet Pasha: ''If I am leaving for good, I need to know. Because Pasha''s accounts, money and whole house was handed over to me.'''
Suleymaniye also notes that Latife Hanim only requested her belongings that were given by her family; like three scarves that her late mother left her and a gun, which its handle was decorated with gold and nacre.
According to Suleymaniye, the letter includes a lot more detailed information on the family matters.
The auction will be held at Rixos Pera Hotel and will also include a picture that was signed by Ataturk, a label that belonged to the first insurance company that was established in Ottoman lands in 1891, and an edict that was sent to Erzurum''s governor by Suleiman the Magnificent.
