Elon Musk says releasing files on sex offender Jeffrey Epstein priority for new political party

‘How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won't release the Epstein files?' says Musk of his onetime ally, the US president

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday again took aim at his onetime close ally US President Donald Trump over the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying his new America Party will focus on releasing files from the case.

“How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won't release the Epstein files?” Musk wrote on X, his social media platform.

When a user asked if exposing the files would rank high on priorities for the America Party, Musk affirmed by posting a "100" emoji.

The relationship between Trump and Musk, long the president's biggest donor, has deteriorated into a public and bitter feud since Musk started criticizing Trump's “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it “utterly insane and destructive.”

Last month, Musk proposed launching a new political party, asking his followers on X if it is “time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle."

He later backed a supporter's suggestion to name the new party the America Party, similar to the America PAC (Political Action Committee) he launched last year, which spent $239 million supporting Trump and other Republicans in the 2024 elections.

The tech mogul had earlier called for Trump's impeachment, claiming that Trump appears in the files related to late sex offender Epstein, but later backtracked.

Photos of Trump and Epstein together have long been made public, but Trump said he was unaware of the offenses of Epstein, who was convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution and sex trafficking.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi recently said the US would not be releasing Epstein's client list as none existed.

The Trump administration walking back pledges to release files long sought by conservative allies has drawn criticism in some circles.
