Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday lamented that Western countries have "ignored" UN Security Council resolutions on the establishment of a Palestinian state, as he addressed a roundtable for foreign ambassadors in Moscow.
"The principle of the UN Charter, enshrined in Article 25, which requires all member states to comply with Security Council decisions, has also been trampled. The West has once again ignored it, just as it ignores many other resolutions, including the one on the need to establish a Palestinian state," Lavrov said.
He also categorically rejected Ukraine's accusations that Russia targets civilians.
"The Russian army never attacks civilian targets or civilian populations," Lavrov said, accusing Kyiv and its partners of spreading misinformation.
Lavrov criticized UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for condemning Russia's alleged strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine, claiming the UN Secretariat supports "fakes" promoted by Kyiv and its allies.
"In response to each accusation, we asked, where is the evidence… where are the facts?" he said, adding that Russia would present video material to foreign envoys.
The UN has not immediately responded to the Russian top diplomat's accusation yet.
The top diplomat further alleged that EU and NATO leaders seek to derail peace efforts regarding Ukraine.
“The EU and NATO Brussels are proceeding from precisely this: they, of course, want to disrupt the peace process,” he said.
Lavrov also stressed that the security guarantees for Ukraine "must fully comply with the West's obligations, enshrined in the UN Charter and in the documents of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Istanbul in 1999 and in Astana in 2010."
