A substantial number of giant infrastructure projects across Turkey crystalized in 2016, which make a sizeable contribution to the country's development. In Turkey, a total of several mega projects have been realized in 2016, such as; the third bridge over the Bosporus Strait; a new highway which will connect commercial Istanbul with the Aegean resort of İzmir, including the world's fourth longest suspension bridge over İzmit Bay; the Eurasia Tunnel and others.
The Osman Gazi Bridge, a colossal suspension bridge, stands as one of the largest projects, which extends across the Gulf of İzmit and commands an unusual sea view along the eastern end of the Marmara Sea.
It's located close to Izmit and approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Istanbul, Turkey.
It boasts of being the fourth-longest suspension bridge in the world by the length of its central span.

After the completion of the bridge, the journey time around the gulf decreased to 4 minutes, while it previously consumed 2 hours.
Also, the 421-kilometer-long highway will cut the average journey time between Izmir and Istanbul from 10 hours to approximately four hours.

The 2,682-meter-long structure is named after Osman Gazi, the founder and first leader of the Ottoman Empire. Its construction began in 2010 and cost $1.3 billion.
The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is another giant project, which was opened in the spring of 2016. The bridge is the third, after the July 15 Martyrs Bridge, which started operating in 1972, and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, completed in 1988.
The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, built above the northern Bosporus, was named after the 16th century Ottoman Sultan Selim I, whose rule marked the expansion of the burgeoning world power in the Middle East.

The bridge is 1.4 kilometers (0.9 mile) long, 59 meters wide and boasts eight road lanes as well as two rail lines.
The Eurasia Tunnel Project (Istanbul Strait Road Tube Crossing Project) is connecting the Asian and European sides via a highway tunnel underneath the seabed.
The Eurasia Tunnel will serve the Kazlıçeşme-Göztepe route, where vehicle traffic is most intense in Istanbul and will cover a total of 14.6 kilometers. The tunnel was opened on December 20.

The Ilgaz July 15 Independence Tunnel has just opened on December 26. The tunnel funnels through Ilgaz Mountain.
The entry and exit points of the tunnel were designed to resemble a shark's mouth.

The project consists of two tunnels; one is 5,370 meters long and the other has a length of 5,391 meters.
It will cut travel distance along the existing route by 5.4 kilometers. Travel times on the Ilgaz Mountain motorway will be cut from 35 minutes to eight minutes.
The tunnel is project ted to contribute 38.2 million Turkish liras to the country's economy annually, saving drivers 8.3 million liters of fuel and shaving off 345,655 hours from journey times.

The Göktürk-2 satellite was sent to China's Jiuquan Space Station in 2012 after being tested in France.
