Snowbound herders rescued after road clearance in Bitlis, Türkiye

A successful rescue operation in eastern Türkiye has freed three cattle herders and their livestock who were stranded in a remote hamlet after heavy snow blocked their passage. Teams from the Hizan District Governorate cleared the road following an urgent call for help.

Emergency call as animal feed supplies run low
The herders, working in the Göçlü hamlet of Horozdere village in Bitlis province, needed to return to their main village after exhausting their feed supply for the animals. Their route was rendered impassable due to intense snowfall, prompting them to contact local authorities for assistance.

Snow combat teams battle one-meter drifts
Specialized snow-clearing crews were immediately dispatched to the area. They encountered challenging conditions, with snow depth reaching up to one meter in places. The teams worked for roughly three hours to carve a path through the accumulated snow and reopen the vital road link.
