Turkish Red Crescent's 21st 'Goodness Ship' departs for Gaza on first day of Ramadan

The Turkish Red Crescent dispatched its 21st humanitarian vessel from Mersin Port to Gaza on Ramadan's first day, carrying 3,300 tons of food, hygiene supplies, and essentials. Red Crescent President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz announced daily meal capacity in Gaza has been doubled to 60,000, aiming to reach 1.8 million people during the holy month.
The Turkish Red Crescent launched its largest humanitarian shipment to Gaza to date Thursday, sending the 21st "Goodness Ship" from Mersin Port on the first day of Ramadan loaded with approximately 175,000 food parcels and 3,300 tons of clothing, hygiene products, shelter materials, and water supplies. President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz emphasized that the vessel carries not only aid but "compassion and mercy" for Gazans observing Ramadan under difficult conditions following the recent ceasefire.

Expanded Ramadan Operations
Yılmaz announced that Red Crescent soup kitchens in Gaza, previously serving 30,000 daily meals, have doubled capacity to 60,000 meals per day for Ramadan, including iftar and sahur provisions. "We aim to provide iftar and sahur materials to a total of 1.8 million people throughout Ramadan," she stated, noting that meals have been diversified and now include dates, water, and pre-dawn food items. The shipment will travel to Egypt's Al-Arish Port before being transferred to trucks and coordinated with the Egyptian Red Crescent for delivery through the Rafah crossing.

Message of Solidarity
"We are not just sending aid materials and food parcels—we are sending compassion and mercy," Yılmaz said, expressing hope that the shipment represents solidarity with Gazans during Ramadan. Mersin Governor Atilla Toros highlighted Turkey's historical commitment to standing with the oppressed, stating: "Our nation has always stood against the oppressor and sided with the oppressed. This ship carries not only aid but also our nation's greetings and prayers to our Gazan brothers and sisters." Despite slow aid flow due to ongoing ceasefire challenges, Yılmaz affirmed that the Red Crescent has remained alongside Gazans since October 7, 2023, and will continue its humanitarian efforts.
