Twitter suffers massive outage on all online platforms

Visitors to the website were greeted by a message telling them that "Something is technically wrong."

Access to the service began failing over on the web, mobile and its API (application programming interface, the system that applications use to speak to the Twitter service) at 8:20am GMT, with error messages warning the network is both “over capacity” and suffering an “internal error.”

"Thanks for noticing," the message reads. "We're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon."

Mobile apps as well as the website itself appeared to be completely down. Tweetdeck, Twitter's other official client, was also down.

Twitter's official status page did not show any information about the outage at the time of publishing, though it is often slow to update.

The problems appear to be worldwide. The Down Detector website showed that reports were coming from across the world.
