Erdoğan calls for international pressure to 'stop Netanyahu'

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared that determined international action could halt Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military campaign in Gaza, calling for stronger diplomatic measures against Israel. Speaking to journalists aboard his return flight from the G20 leaders' summit in Johannesburg, the Turkish president emphasized the necessity of sustained global pressure to address the ongoing conflict.

Call for Cohesive International Stance

Erdoğan specifically advocated for a unified international approach featuring consistent diplomatic pressure and sanctions capability. "I believe that if the international community shows a determined, consistent and sanction-capable will, it can stop Netanyahu," the president stated, framing this as the necessary response to Israel's continued military operations despite ceasefire arrangements.

Assessment of Ceasefire Compliance

The Turkish leader contrasted the behavior of conflicting parties, noting that Hamas has demonstrated "great patience in the face of all these provocations by Israel and is adhering to the ceasefire." He stressed that full implementation of the existing ceasefire agreement remains essential while calling for uninterrupted humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip's civilian population.

Regional Security and Mediation Offers

President Erdoğan also addressed broader regional security concerns, warning that Türkiye would take necessary measures if facing threats to its national security. Simultaneously, he reaffirmed Ankara's willingness to facilitate peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, referencing Türkiye's previous mediation role in Istanbul and expressing readiness to maintain "the same constructive stance" in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
