Erdogan: Fight against Daesh, Syria terror threat gaining strength

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated the campaign against Daesh is intensifying and eliminating the separatist terror threat in northern Syria will bring relief to the entire region. He highlighted Syria's recovery and Türkiye's supportive role under President Ahmad Al-Sharaa's leadership.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that the international fight against the Daesh terrorist group is becoming more forceful and determined, linking regional stability directly to the eradication of terrorism in neighboring Syria.
Vision for a Unified Syria
Speaking at a housing ceremony in Aydin province on Saturday, Erdogan asserted, "Once the separatist terrorist threat in northern Syria is completely eliminated, not only the Syrian people but the entire region will find relief." He emphasized that a secure and unified Syria benefits all its communities. He credited President Ahmad Al-Sharaa's leadership and Türkiye's strong support for Syria's rapid recovery after 13.5 years of conflict, noting the return of security as terrorist groups are pushed out.
Inclusive Future and Türkiye's Regional Stance
Erdogan outlined an inclusive vision for Syria's future, stating that Kurds are becoming full citizens and Turkmens are assuming governance roles. "The winners of a united, whole, and secure Syria will be Arabs, Turkmens, Kurds, Alawites, Druze, Christians, and all other Syrian citizens," he said. He warned against the dangers of ethnic and sectarian polarization, which he said only brings suffering. Erdogan also noted positive sentiments toward Türkiye in Syrian cities like Aleppo and Idlib as a reward for Ankara's principled stance.
Critique of the Eroding World Order
Beyond regional issues, the President commented on global dynamics, suggesting that critiques long voiced by Türkiye regarding the post-World War II international order are now gaining traction in Western forums like the World Economic Forum in Davos. He warned of a shift where "the rule of force is overtaking the rule of law," and noted that challenges familiar to Türkiye are now affecting traditionally stable nations.
