President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan confirmed Wednesday that authorities have launched a full investigation into the crash of a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet in western Balıkesir province, which killed pilot Major İbrahim Bolat. The aircraft lost radio contact shortly after takeoff from the 9th Main Jet Base Command.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Wednesday that authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the crash of a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet in western Balıkesir province, which claimed the life of its pilot. Speaking at an event in Ankara, Erdoğan expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Major İbrahim Bolat, offering prayers and extending condolences to the pilot's family, the Turkish Air Force, and the nation.

Crash Details and Response

The National Defense Ministry reported that the aircraft lost radio contact and tracking information shortly after departing from the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balıkesir at 12:56 a.m. local time Wednesday. The ministry confirmed the crash resulted in the pilot's death. Erdoğan stated that "all necessary procedures are being carried out by the relevant institutions" to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are examining multiple factors including mechanical failure, pilot error, and environmental conditions as they work to establish the cause of the crash. The F-16 has been a mainstay of the Turkish Air Force for decades, and such incidents prompt thorough safety reviews. The investigation aims to prevent future occurrences and ensure the continued safety of Türkiye's aerial defense capabilities.
