Erdogan pledges Türkiye's full support for Syria's post-war reconstruction

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has affirmed Türkiye's commitment to backing Syria's recovery, saying the implementation of a key March integration deal is vital to thwarting plans for a divided Syria. He also expressed confidence in a Palestinian victory.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has pledged his nation’s full support for Syria’s post-war reconstruction, praising the Syrian people's resilience in rebuilding their country after the fall of the Assad regime. Speaking at a Human Rights Day event in Ankara on Tuesday, Erdogan linked Syria’s stability to the successful implementation of a critical domestic political agreement.
The strategic importance of the March 10 agreement
President Erdogan emphasized that the smooth execution of the March 10 agreement within Syria would disrupt the designs of "malign actors" who benefit from a weak and fractured nation. The March pact, announced by the Syrian presidency, aims to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)—viewed by Ankara as dominated by the PKK-affiliated YPG—into the state apparatus, thereby reinforcing Syria’s territorial integrity against separatist agendas.
Türkiye's role as a supportive neighbor
"We are pleased to see Syrian people striving to rebuild their country over the past year despite all the hardships, and the devastation left by the Assad dictatorship," Erdogan stated. He affirmed that Türkiye and its people support Syria's recovery efforts "with all means," positioning Ankara as a key regional partner in stabilization and reconstruction, a significant shift from the previous decade's adversarial stance toward the Damascus government.
Parallel support for Palestine
Erdogan also connected his message on Syria to the broader regional context, expressing unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He predicted that the "oppressed people in Palestine will see their patience crowned with victory," leading to a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This dual focus underscores Türkiye's foreign policy alignment with Muslim and Arab causes while asserting its influential role in post-conflict Middle Eastern geopolitics.
