Erdogan: Türkiye and Malaysia to deepen defense, investment ties

President Erdogan announced that Türkiye and Malaysia will explore new joint steps in the defense industry and aims for increased Malaysian investment. The leaders also aligned on global issues, including Gaza, during high-level talks in Ankara.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Türkiye will continue to evaluate opportunities for enhanced collaboration with Malaysia in the defense industry, operating on a "win-win principle." The announcement came during a high-level cooperation council meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Ankara on Wednesday, marking a significant step in bilateral relations.
Expanding Strategic Cooperation
Following his visit to Kuala Lumpur in February of the previous year, President Erdogan noted the successful convening of the first high-level council meeting. He expressed a desire for Malaysia to bolster its investments in Türkiye, highlighting the economic dimension of the partnership. The discussions also covered educational and cultural exchanges, which Erdogan said would further solidify the foundation between the two nations.
Alignment on Regional and Global Issues
The talks in the Turkish capital addressed pressing international concerns, with both leaders finding common ground. "Especially, we will continue to closely follow Gaza," President Erdogan emphasized. He also reaffirmed the importance Türkiye places on its cooperation with regional countries and the ASEAN bloc under its Asia Anew Initiative, a foreign policy platform launched in 2019 to deepen ties with Asia.
Diplomatic Recognition and Future Steps
President Erdogan commended Prime Minister Anwar for his diplomatic efforts in de-escalating tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. The meeting underscores Türkiye's active and growing role as a strategic partner in Asia, focusing on mutual benefits in defense, trade, and diplomacy while asserting its stance on key humanitarian issues like Gaza.
