Turkish foreign minister holds separate calls with Abbas Araghchi and Ishaq Dar as Ankara intensifies efforts to end regional conflict.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone calls Wednesday with his Iranian and Pakistani counterparts to discuss the ongoing Middle East war, underscoring Ankara's active diplomatic engagement amid escalating hostilities.

Tehran conversation

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Fidan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the "latest situation in the war" over a phone call. The conversation allowed the two ministers to exchange assessments on the conflict's trajectory as the US-Israeli offensive against Iran enters its fifth week.

Islamabad talks

In a separate call, Fidan and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar focused on efforts to end the conflict triggered by the joint US-Israel attacks on Iran that began Feb. 28. Pakistan, a key regional player with close ties to both Tehran and Gulf states, maintains influence that could prove valuable in any diplomatic resolution.

Regional context

The diplomatic outreach comes amid continued hostilities that have killed more than 1,340 people in Iran, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with sustained drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation. Fidan's calls represent the latest in a series of diplomatic engagements as Türkiye seeks to position itself as a mediator in the expanding conflict.
