Statement from Hikmat al-Hajri demands opening of corridor from Suwayda to northeast of Syria, border crossing between Suwayda, Jordan

The Hikmat al-Hajri group, which is fighting against the Syrian government in the southern province of Suwayda, has demanded the opening of a corridor into the territory occupied by the PKK/YPG terror group.

In a statement posted on social media, the group demanded an “open path” from Suwayda to the northeast of Syria, currently occupied by PKK/YPG terrorists. It also called on Jordan's King Abdullah II to open a border crossing between Suwayda and Jordan.

The terrorist organization PKK/YPG, which operates in Syria under the name SDF, organized a demonstration in support of groups clashing with security forces in Suwayda in the city center of Hasakah on Wednesday.

The organization is currently preparing to send a shipment to Suwayda under the guise of “humanitarian aid.”

The PKK/YPG also clashed with the Syrian army in the Dayr Hafir region east of Aleppo on Wednesday and then sent reinforcements to the area.

- Clashes in Suwayda and Israeli attacks

On July 13, small-scale clashes broke out between Bedouin Arab tribes and Druze armed groups in the southern Syrian province of Suwayda.

Dozens of soldiers were killed in attacks by Druze groups on Syrian security forces deployed to the area.

After the clashes between security forces and local Druze armed groups escalated, a ceasefire was reached between the parties.

The ceasefire was broken shortly thereafter, and the Israeli army carried out attacks targeting Syrian security forces.

On July 16, the Israeli air force struck the Syrian presidential compound, the General Staff Headquarters, and the Defense Ministry.

On the same day, a ceasefire was reestablished between the government and local groups in Suwayda, while Israeli warplanes carried out attacks on Damascus and Daraa.

Since the security forces have withdrawn from Suwayda, it is estimated that hundreds of people have lost their lives in the clashes and Israeli attacks.
