Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has commended Türkiye's position on Gaza and called for Islamic unity against external interference. During talks in Istanbul, he reaffirmed Iran's commitment to diplomacy and peaceful nuclear intentions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has lauded Türkiye's diplomatic efforts regarding Gaza and stressed the necessity of regional unity against foreign interference. Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Istanbul on Friday, Araghchi characterized the bilateral relationship as one of "fraternity and friendship," particularly valuable amid current regional security challenges.
Appreciation for Solidarity and Common Stance on Gaza
Minister Araghchi expressed gratitude for Türkiye's messages of solidarity following what he described as recent "terrorist attacks" in Iran, which he blamed on "Israeli-linked elements." He specifically thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister Fidan for their "active role and support for Palestine," acknowledging Ankara's humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives in Gaza.
Warning Against External Interference and Call for Unity
The Iranian diplomat issued a strong warning against what he termed the "illegitimate interference of outside actors," accusing Israel of conspiring to destabilize the region. "Islamic countries must act in unity," Araghchi stated, emphasizing that regional security is indivisible. He reiterated Tehran's long-standing position that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful and expressed openness to fair diplomatic engagement on the issue.
Positions on Syria, Lebanon, and Bilateral Trade
On other regional matters, Araghchi reiterated Iran's support for the sovereignty and inclusive governance of Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, calling for an end to occupation in Syria and national dialogue in Lebanon. The ministers also discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and remove obstacles to bilateral trade, indicating a desire to broaden the partnership beyond political and security issues. For Türkiye, maintaining this dialogue channel is a cornerstone of its policy to manage regional crises through diplomacy and to safeguard its own security interests.
