'This attack is far away from the civilized behavior of states that believe in peace,' says Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, adding it is aimed at derailing Gaza ceasefire talks

Israeli attacks target not only Qatar, but any country working to achieve peace, Qatar’s prime minister told a UN Security Council meeting Thursday on the situation in the Middle East.

“The continuation of such attacks does not only target Qatar. It is a clear threat to target any country that is working on achieving peace, and that undermines the trust in the United Nations,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani.

“The attack is a violation of the sovereignty of a state member of the United Nations. This attack is far away from the civilized behavior of states that believe in peace," he said, referring to an Israeli strike earlier this week on the capital Doha targeting members of the Palestinian group Hamas while they were discussing a recent Gaza ceasefire proposal by the US.

He stressed that the assault on Doha aimed to derail negotiations.

“Israel is trying to rearrange the region by force. It is using fundamentalist ideas that are the basis of Israel's behavior,” he added.

He noted that Qatar believes fully in mediation and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Qatar, he underlined, will continue diplomatic efforts and will not tolerate any attack on its security.

He accused Israel’s current leadership of being “bloodthirsty extremists” who “believe they enjoy impunity” while carrying out a “genocide in Gaza” and undermining regional stability.

“How can we host Israeli representatives when they have committed this attack? Have you heard of any state attacking a mediator this way?” he said.

The prime minister reaffirmed Doha’s commitment to mediation, stressing that peace requires a ceasefire, the release of hostages, humanitarian aid access and a two-state solution.

At the same UN Security Council meeting, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi described Israel as “a rogue government soaked in the blood of innocent people” that violates sovereignty, international law and imposes a famine on Gaza.

He urged the international community to act “immediately and effectively” to stop Israel’s “arrogance” to protect the region from its “disastrous actions.”

United Arab Emirates presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said the attack on Qatar “further inflames an already explosive situation,” stressing that Doha “does not stand alone” as the Council had spoken with one voice against aggression. He called for “wisdom and collective resolve” to pursue peace and security based on justice and coexistence.
