Foreign Minister of Montenegro Ervin Ibrahimovic speaks during an interview in Istanbul, Türkiye on January 23, 2026.

Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimovic praised Türkiye's significant contribution to global and regional peace during the Balkans Peace Platform meeting in Istanbul. He highlighted thriving bilateral ties in tourism, investment, and diplomacy.

Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimovic has commended Türkiye for its influential role in promoting international peace and stability, emphasizing its critical participation in regional diplomatic forums like the Balkans Peace Platform.

Praise for Türkiye's Diplomatic Influence

Speaking to Anadolu on the sidelines of the platform's second foreign ministers' meeting in Istanbul, Ibrahimovic described Türkiye's global engagement as "extremely strong." He noted the particular value of Ankara's involvement in the Balkans, a region where he said peace and stability are paramount. "Not only regionally, but globally, especially in challenging geopolitical situations, the participation of a country like Türkiye... is very valuable," the minister stated, expressing optimism that the platform would yield positive outcomes.

Thriving Bilateral Relations and Economic Ties

Ibrahimovic pointed to the relationship between Podgorica and Ankara as a model of good bilateral relations that "must continue." He cited excellent cooperation in economy, security, and culture. Notably, he revealed that Türkiye stands as the largest foreign investor in Montenegro, accounting for 15% of the country's foreign investments in 2025. The minister also highlighted a robust people-to-people connection, mentioning that 165,000 Turkish tourists visited Montenegro last year and that a 250,000-strong Montenegrin diaspora in Türkiye serves as an important bridge between the two nations.
