President Erdogan Arrives in Egypt for Gaza Peace Summit

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has commenced his diplomatic mission to Egypt, arriving in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh Monday to participate in the landmark international peace summit addressing Gaza's ceasefire implementation and future stability. The Turkish leader's attendance comes following joint invitations extended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, underscoring Türkiye's significant role in regional peace initiatives.

Upon arrival at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, President Erdogan received an official welcome from Egyptian Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy, alongside Türkiye's Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Sen and diplomatic staff. The presidential delegation includes Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Intelligence Organization Director Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Foreign Policy and Security Advisor Akif Cagatay Kilic, representing comprehensive Turkish diplomatic and security expertise.

Following arrival ceremonies, President Erdogan and his delegation proceeded to the International Convention Center, where the high-level summit will convene to discuss implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The Turkish president is scheduled to attend the formal signing ceremony for the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement and conduct bilateral consultations with participating world leaders throughout the summit proceedings. The gathering will feature representation from more than twenty national leaders, with co-chairmanship shared between Presidents Trump and al-Sisi.

Egyptian officials have characterized the summit's primary objectives as conclusively ending the Gaza conflict, enhancing Middle East peace and stability efforts, and initiating a new phase of regional security cooperation. The diplomatic gathering follows Friday's implementation of the ceasefire agreement's initial phase under President Trump's peace framework, which emerged after two years of devastating conflict that has resulted in more than 67,800 Palestinian casualties and widespread destruction throughout the Gaza Strip.
